STARKVILLE — Starkville girls basketball won its home opener against Meridian on Friday night, 66-58.
The Yellow Jackets (2-0) were led by Zariyah Edwards and Je’Niecia Hill, each of whom scored 20 points or more in the win. Edwards led the team with 21 points.
Starkville will host West Point in its next game at 6 p.m. Thursday.

WEST POINT — West Point girls basketball won its first game of the season, a 43-30 victory over Houston on Saturday afternoon.
The Green Wave (1-1) were led by Tyquashia McMillian, with 11 points, Taylor Fair with 8 points and Dukiaha Jones with 7 points.
West Point will host Kemper County in its next game at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
Ripley 27, Columbus 26
PONTOTOC — Columbus lost a close one-point affair against Ripley at the Rotary Club Classic in Pontotoc on Saturday afternoon.
The Falcons (0-2) were led by MaKhya Weatherspoon with 13 points. Both the girls and boys basketball teams for Columbus lost by one-point margins on Saturday.
Columbus will host Louisville in its next game at 6 p.m. Tuesday.

Meridian 55, Starkville 48
STARKVILLE — Starkville boys basketball dropped its home opener for the season against Meridian on Friday night, 55-48.
The Yellow Jackets (1-1) saw Makhi Myles go off, with a dominant, 31-point performance in a losing effort. The rest of the team was able to score just 17 points in the game.
Starkville 57, Madison-Ridgeland Academy 54, OT
NEW HOPE — Starkville pulled out a 57-54 overtime victory against Madison-Ridgeland Academy during the SSP Tip-Off Classic on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets (2-1) lost a 40-37 lead heading into the fourth quarter but outscored MRA 5-2 in the overtime period.
Starkville will host West Point in its next game at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
Holmes County Central 50, Columbus 49
NEW HOPE — Columbus came up a point short against Holmes County Central in the SSP Tip-Off Classic on Saturday afternoon, 50-49.
Jayden Tatum was one of the three Falcons (1-1) to finish in double-figures in scoring, leading the team with 12 points. Josh Smith had 11 points and Jakele Phillips had 10 points as the other double-figure scorer for Columbus.
Columbus will host Louisville in its next game at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
West Point 66, Houston 27
WEST POINT — West Point won its season opener at home against Houston, a 66-27 blowout victory, on Saturday afternoon.
The Green Wave (1-0) were led by Daveon Willis, who had a game-high 30 points, as well as Elijah Young and Javeon Love, who each had 11 points in the win.
West Point will host Kemper County in its next game at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

Starkville 3, Caledonia 0
STARKVILLE — Starkville won its second consecutive match, a 3-0 shutout of Caledonia on the road on Saturday afternoon.
Three different players scored for the Yellow Jackets (2-2-1) in the win: Emma Pinson, Sara Pinzon and Olivia Anderson.
Starkville will travel to play Germantown in its next match at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, and Caledonia will host Kosciusko in its next match at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Starkville 4, Caledonia 0
CALEDONIA — Starkville improved to a perfect 4-0 record this season after a 4-0 road win over Caledonia on Saturday.
The Yellow Jackets had four different scorers in the match: Soren Voges-Haupt, Ben Buehler, Brandon Shaffer and Tony Shin. Voges-Haupt and Shin also had assists in the win. This was Caledonia’s first match of the season.
Starkville will travel to play Germantown in its next match at 7 p.m. Thursday, and Caledonia will host Kosciusko in its next match at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
