The Starkville 6U All-Stars Maroon team finished as the runner-up in the Dizzy Dean Baseball south state championship on Sunday in Cleveland.
Two teams from Starkville and teams from Columbus and West Point competed in the tournament, with Starkville Maroon losing only to host Cleveland.
Starkville Maroon’s offense was on fire during the first two games, defeating Columbus 20-5 on Thursday and Greenwood 18-11 on Saturday. Games scheduled for Friday were rained out.
Starkville Maroon had a busy day Sunday. First, they lost to Cleveland in the main bracket final. They went into the consolation bracket, where they defeated Greenwood for the second time in the final to earn the right to play Cleveland in the championship game.
Starkville White won two games during the tournament and fell one game short of the consolation bracket final. They won their opening game on Thursday, 17-2 over Delta Sports, before going to the consolation bracket after a loss to Cleveland.
Starkville White recorded a wild 25-24 win over Grenada on Saturday night, but their run in the tournament ended in the early game Sunday against Greenwood.
