Chris Jans continues to pick up guards in the NCAA transfer portal.
The new Mississippi State men’s basketball coach landed the commitment of Albany guard Jamel Horton on Thursday as Horton announced his decision to join the Bulldogs shortly after 1 p.m.
Horton averaged 12.8 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists for the Great Danes last season. The Queens, New York, native was the America East defensive player of the year and was a second-team all-conference selection.
Horton began his career at Pratt Community College before transferring to Albany.
He joins Oregon State guard Dashawn Davis and Southeast Missouri’s Eric Reed, Jr. in the Bulldogs’ guard rotation. MSU returns guard Shakeel Moore, who entered the transfer portal but chose to return.
Guard/forward Cameron Matthews, forward D.J. Jeffries, big man Tolu Smith and forward KeShawn Murphy are MSU’s returning scholarship players. The Bulldogs also landed New Mexico State big main Will McNair Jr.
