The Starkville-based Space Cadets, the Columbus Soccer Organization’s 2022 Adult Soccer League champions, won the Premier Division tournament at the CSO’s annual event May 14-15.
The Space Cadets (7-1 regular season), captained by Kase Kingery, defeated MSU Kinesiology in the semifinal round before defeating 2021 champion Hyperventilation in the championship match. They had defeated both tournament opponents during the season.
In the Pioneer Division, the Demos, captained by Jay DeSanctis, defeated Club OSS in the semifinal and defending champion Possum Town Rangers to claim the championship. The Demos opened the season with four consecutive losses before turning thing around and finishing 3-5.
The Todd Waldrop Adult League Player of the Year award, which recognizes the player who best demonstrates the qualities of its namesake — sportsmanship, love of the game and support of and respect for other players and officials — was won by Alvaro Taboada. A four-year player in the league, Taboada is a professor of business at Mississippi State University who plays on the MSU Kinesiology team.
