Starkville Academy’s baseball team hit three doubles and two home runs but did not score after the second inning and dropped a 14-5 decision to Magnolia Heights on Thursday in Starkville.
Ayden Alsobrooks hit a two-run home run and Hayes Davis hit a two-run double as the Vols (19-4) took a 4-0 lead in the first inning. After the Chiefs tied the score in the top of the second, Randall Futral’s solo home run gave the Vols a 5-4 edge.
But from there it was all Chiefs, as the visitors scored twice in the third, three runs in the fourth and four more in the sixth.
Alsobrooks, Davis and Will McReynolds each had two hits for Starkville Academy.
Softball
Starkville 25, Starkville Christian 0: Marian Tate allowed one hit and struck out five for the Yellow Jackets.
Aubrey Montgomery had two hits for Starkville, while the other hits came from Kiersten Burnett, Presley Buckley, Jocelyn Randle, Tarum Still and Jallyiah Conley.
Mikayla Johnson had the lone hit for the Cougars.
