Jenna Holder of Starkville High School tied for first place among female scorers on Monday, leading the Yellow Jackets to second place in the MHSAA Class 3A archery championships at Kirk Fordice Equine Center in Jackson.
Holder and Julia Pryor of d’Iberville each totaled 289 out of a possible 300 points to share the individual title. Felicity Andol of Starkville placed third with 286 points.
D’Iberville finished with 3,336 points to Starkville’s second-place total of 3,287.
Landon Garett of d’Iberville led boys competitors with 287 points. Robert Layton paced the Yellow Jackets with 279, placing 18th.
Baseball
Caledonia 13, Shannon 1: Josh Pitts went 2 for 4 with a three-run home run and pitched three one-hit innings with four strikeouts to lead the Cavaliers in an MHSAA Class 4A, Region 1 game in Shannon.
Pitts’ three-run home came during a six-run second inning. The Cavaliers (8-11, 4-3 4A-1) also scored six runs in the third in posting their fourth consecutive win.
Will Donald went 2 for 3 with an RBI and two runs scored for Caledonia, while Parker Harris drove in two runs.
Softball
New Hope 12, West Point 0: Adi Dueitt tossed a four-inning two-hitter, striking out eight, as the Trojans routed the Green Wave in an MHSAA Class 5A, Region 1 game in New Hope.
The Trojans used seven hits, six walks and four errors, with Conerly Moody the only player with two hits. Zoe Goodman, Emma O’Bryant and Madyson McBrayer each drove in two runs for New Hope (12-10-1), while Taylor Brownlee scored three runs.
Ja’Leah Orr and Kirsten Perry had the hits for West Point.
