Junior Cierra Crusoe shattered Class 5A records in all three events and broke the state’s deadlift record with a weight of 490 pounds to win her second consecutive title at the MHSAA Girls Powerlifting Championships on Friday at Mississippi Coliseum in Jackson.
Crusoe totaled 1,040 pounds and set 5A records in bench and squat as well as deadlift.
Delaniee Blair, a first-time qualifier, finished third in the state with 495 pounds.
Gautier won the Class 5A girls team title. D’Iberville on the 6A crown, South Pontotoc won in 4A, Kossuth captured the 3A title and East Union won in Class I.
The boys championships were contested Saturday.
Baseball
Caledonia 7, Geraldine 5: The Cavaliers scored twice in the top of the first, then posted single runs in the second, third, fourth, sixth and seventh in Geraldine, Alabama.
Josh Pitts tripled to drive in Kellen Coleman, who led off the game by getting hit by a pitch, and Will Donald singled to drive in Pitts to get the Cavs off to a good start. Pitts drove in the sixth-inning run with a single to center.
Coleman, Pitts and Zack Gorum each had two hits, with Coleman scoring two runs.
After issuing a leadoff walk, Conner Black retired the next three batters in the seventh to close out the win for Caledonia (7-11), which won its third consecutive game.
West Point 13, Eupora 1: Cleanup hitter Elijah Young doubled, tripled, drove in two runs and scored twice in the Green Wave’s five-inning rout in West Point.
Seniors Ben Harrell and JD Turney combined on a five-inning two-hitter for the Green Wave (7-9), striking out six without walking a batter.
Ben Harrell went 2 for 3 with two RBIs for West Point, while sophomore leadoff hitter Cortlin Carter went 2 for 3 and scored three times. Tyrese Johnson and Amari Cox also scored two runs apiece for the Green Wave.
Softball
Amory 9, New Hope 4: Kensley Woolbright went 2 for 3 with an RBI in New Hope’s loss at Amory.
Adi Dueitt singled, walked and scored twice for New Hope (11-10-1). Although the Panthers had 11 hits, four of the runs scored against Dueitt were unearned.
Dueitt walked and scored on a double by Taylor Brownlee during the fifth inning for the Trojans, who scored two runs in the top of the seventh on outs after Dueitt singled and Brownlee walked to lead off the inning.

Baseball
Columbus Christian 13-11, Delta 1-1: Luke Phillips tossed a four-inning one-hitter in the opener, and Drake Shaw threw a five-inning one hitter in the nightcap as the Rams crushed the Raiders in an MAIS Class 2A, District 1 doubleheader.
McCory Humphreys’ two-run double highlighted a seven-run second inning for the Rams (8-2). Landon Townley drove in three runs for CCA, while Humphreys and Caleb Farlow each drove in two.
Jackson Howard tripled and scored twice, while Drake Shaw, Daniel Pate, Landon Kinard and Humphreys also scored two runs apiece. Phillips struck out six and walked four.
In the second game, Shaw struck out 10 and walked one as the Rams again used a seven-run second inning to take command. Pate’s two-run single, and RBI triple by Farlow nad a run-scoring single by Townley capped the rally.
Pate went 2 for 3 with three RBIs, Jackson Howard drove in two and scored two, and Shaw and Humphreys each scored twice.
The Raiders committed 10 errors in the doubleheader; the Rams made one.
Oxford 3, Starkville 1: Koby Livingston walked leading off the second inning and scored on a two-out double to right by Kieran Coleman for the Yellow Jackets’ run.
Ethan Pulliam struck out 10 over six innings for Starkville (6-11, 2-3 6A-1). Coleman struck out the side in the seventh. But the Chargers scored twice in the sixth, including a solo home run by Campbell Smithwick.
Oxford managed just four hits against Starkville, which played an error-free game. Pulliam and Coleman each had two of the Jackets’ five hits.
Softball
East Webster 4, New Hope 2: Kensley Woolbright tripled in Laylah Henderson and then scored on a squeeze by Adi Dueitt in the sixth inning, but that was the scoring the Trojans could muster.
Madyson McBrayer doubled to left to lead off the bottom of the seventh but was stranded at second base. Woolbright and McBrayer each had two of the Trojans’ six hits, while two of the four runs allowed by Dueitt were unearned. She did not walk a batter in the complete game.
