Hebron Christian’s Terry Loden stole the ball near midcourt and drove in for a layup with 2 minutes, 38 seconds left in the first half.
Ordinarily, a routine basket for the home team, but on Thursday night, it marked the first points for the Eagles after visiting Oak Hill opened the game with 38 consecutive points.
Collins Trolio led three Raiders in double figures with 19 points as Oak Hill posted an overwhelming 60-6 victory over Hebron Christian in Pheba.
Cameron Dill scored 12 points, and Noah Brand came off the bench to score 10 for the Raiders (15-3), who seemed to win every battle for a rebound and every scramble for a loose ball.
Trolio scored the first 10 points of the night, nailing two corner 3-pointers, two free throws and a layup off of an assist from Dill. Trolio then fed Nathan Harrington for easy baskets around a 3-pointer from Dill to push the lead to 17-0. The score was 27-0 after one quarter, and when Trolio opened the second quarter with a three-point play, the running clock kicked in and stayed in play for the rest of the contest.
Reserves started to come in for Oak Hill less than 3 minutes into the second quarter, and while the scoring slowed the defense did not. Fast breaks off of steals accounted for most of the Raiders’ scoring, and a 40-2 halftime lead became 52-2 after three.
The run stretched to 20 points before Stephen Raines ended the drought for the Eagles, first with two free throws with 5 minutes to go and then with a drive to the basket with just fewer than 3 minutes left.
The Eagles will be back in action Tuesday with an MAIS Class 2A District 1 game against Columbus Christian, while the Raiders return to 4A-1 play Friday at Rossville Christian.
