Kate Wilkins posted a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds Monday night to lead the Pickens Academy girls basketball team to a 32-30 win over Kemper Academy in its season-opening game in Carrollton, Alabama.
Lizzie Noland added 11 points for the Pirates, who will be back home Tuesday to face Coosa Valley Academy at 6 p.m.
Braylee Johnson led Kemper Academy (0-2) with 11 points.
Boys basketball
Kemper Academy 39, Pickens Academy 35: No Pirate managed to reach double figures in scoring as they dropped their opener to the Rams.
Drake Lowery led Pickens with 9 points, while Clark Gibson scored 8 points, and Clay More added 7. Zane Knight scored a game-high 15 points for the Rams (1-2), while Mix Wilson added 14 points.
The Pirates will host Coosa Valley Academy at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
