Linebacker Jykeon Cunningham and running back Cameron Young of West Point High School were named Wednesday to the Mississippi roster for the 35h annual Mississippi/Alabama All-Star Game that will take place at noon Saturday, Dec. 11, at M.M. Roberts Stadium at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. Alabama leads the series 23-11.
Todd Breland of South Jones will coach the Mississippi team. The offensive coordinator and offensive line coach will be Drew Causey of Oak Grove, while John Archie of Gulfport will serve as defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.
Brandon’s Sam Williams will coach wide receivers, Tim McNair of Crystal Springs will handle the linebackers, Marcus Rogers of Holmes County Central will coach quarterbacks and running backs, the defensive line will be coached by Clint Hoots of Itawamba Agricultural and Tupelo’s Ty Hardin will coach defensive backs.
North-South rosters announced
Two players apiece from Caledonia and West Point are among six area football players who were named Wednesday to the North team for the 73rd annual Bernard Blackwell North/South All-Star Game scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 18 at Milner Stadium in Gulfport.
South leads the series 34-29-5
Running back Darrius Triplett and offensive lineman Tyshawn Graham will represent Caledonia in the game, while offensive lineman Jalen Lairy and defensive back Fred McMillian will represent West Point. Columbus defensive lineman Deitrick McCray and linebacker Chaussey Tripplet of Noxubee County also will play for the North. The North will be coached by Louisville’s Tyrone Shorter, assisted by Shelby Ford of DeSoto Central, Rob Price of East Webster, Dillon Mitchell of Louisville, Patrick Schoolar of Neshoba Central, John Keith of Nettleton, Tim Wilson of Provine and Henry Johnson of Clarksdale.
