Sophomore Emma Coggin’s 167 led the Mississippi University for Women’s women’s golf team to a fifth-place finish at the Williams Baptist Fall Invitational on Monday and Tuesday at Kennett Country Club in Kennett, Missouri.
Timothy Turner posted back-to-back rounds of 74 to finish 10th in the men’s tournament, leading The W to eighth place.
Oliva Derbyshire tied for 19th with a total of 88-94=182, while Chesne Joyner tied for 21st at 93-91-184 and Ta’Dashia Flowers shot 97-97-194 to place 31st.
Zach Riley’s 77-76-153 tied for 32nd, and Logan Pannell was three shots back of Riley with a 77-79-156.
The W’s Seth Wallace (tie for 49th) and Brady Scola (50th) finished back to back with final tallies of 161 and 162.

Delta State shuts out The W men
The Mississippi University for Women men’s soccer squad was shut out for the first time this season, falling to NCAA Division II foe Delta State 3-0 in the first meeting between the teams on Tuesday in Cleveland.
The loss dropped the Owls to 2-2 on the year, while the Statesmen improved to 2-1-1 on a rainy Delta Field.
The teams battled to a scoreless tie through the first 42-plus minutes until DSU tallied in the 43rd minute to take a 1-0 advantage into the intermission. The other Statesmen goals came during the 73rd and 77th minutes.
The Owls put just two shots on goal, while keeper David McCutchen made four saves.
The W men will next be in action at home Friday against Williams Baptist College. Kickoff for the match is slated for 5 p.m. at the Lowndes County Soccer Complex.
