SOUTHAVEN — The 10-and-under All-Star Little League baseball team from West Point came in second in the Dizzy Dean Baseball World Series on Tuesday at Snowden Grove Park in Southaven.
The Point City All-Stars beat the host Southaven All-Stars 5-2 in Game 1 of the championship series but couldn’t manage to win the 10U division, finishing as runner-up.
West Point beat Senatobia 13-6 on Friday and defeated Hernando 9-4 on Saturday. The team beat Senatobia again Monday, 16-11, to reach the championship series.
Bryant Yelverton, Alex Jackson, Lawson Smith and Tylon Powell were named to the all-tournament team.
Yelverton led the team with a .714 average and three doubles in six games, while Smith hit .500, Jackson hit .467, Mason Edwards hit .462, and Powell hit .417.
On the mound, Jackson led the team with 9.2 innings pitched, allowing five runs and earning a win and a save. Yelverton had a win in 8.2 innings pitched, and Smith got a win in three innings on the hill.
