Editor’s note: the roundup is factoring stats through Sunday’s games.
Nate Lowe was the hero for the Texas Rangers Sunday, drilling a two-out, bases loaded single in the bottom of the 10th inning to help his team win a 1-0 contest against the Baltimore Orioles. In his last seven games, Lowe is batting .222 with a home run, two RBIs and three walks with a .323 on-base percentage. The former Diamond Dawg has four home runs on the year.
For the second consecutive week, the Chicago Cubs weren’t thrilled to see Milwaukee Brewers starting pitcher Brandon Woodruff. Woodruff took a no-hitter into the seventh inning the last time he faced the north siders, but this time held the Cubs to one run over six innings with six strikeouts. Things also got a little chippy on the mound, with Woodruff taking an exception to being targeted while batting. On the year, the right-handed pitcher has a 2.12 ERA over 17 innings and 19 strikeouts.
The Oakland Athletics are red hot, winners of their last eight games, and former MSU standout Mitch Moreland is a big reason why. Moreland has hit .278 in his last seven contests with a .316 on-base percentage and has driven in three runs. The first baseman is still searching for his first home run of the season.
There may be no former MSU player hotter in his last seven games than Adam Fraizer. The infielder is batting .379 and slugging .552 in the last week while driving in five runs and walking twice. His season batting average has risen to .305 with a .400 on-base percentage. Frazier’s teammate, Chris Stratton has made five scoreless appearances in his last six appearances out of the bullpen, accumulating five strikeouts in that time frame.
Kendall Graveman has not allowed an earned run yet for the Seattle Mariners. The reliever threw two scoreless innings over the last week and did not allow any baserunners. Both of these appearances were save situations against the Baltimore Orioles and Graveman converted both.
