Garrett Edwards launched a three-run home run to highlight an Oak Hill scoring onslaught Monday in a 12-6 victory against Carroll Academy.
Manning Huffman had two hits and two RBIs, while Carson Taylor and Jake Glusenkemp also collected two-hit efforts Monday for Oak Hill (6-8).
Gunter Reed earned the start on the mound, pitching three scoreless innings and scattering two hits.
Oak Hill is back in action against Central Holmes Christian Tuesday.
Starkville Academy 25, Winston Academy 5
Runs weren’t at a premium in Starkville Academy’s 25-5 win over Winston Academy in five innings Monday. Will McReynolds collected three hits and five RBIs, while Cooper Mcneel drove in four runs on three hits. Harris McReynolds also tallied three hits for Starkville Academy (16-4).
The Vols also won a game against Winston Academy 11-4 earlier in the day.
SA is back in action against Winston Academy on Thursday.
Germantown 5, Starkville High 2
Ethan Pulliam’s solo shot was one of the lone highlights for the Starkville Yellow Jackets Monday, as they fell to Germantown 6-2. It was the first Class 6A, Region 3 loss for the Yellow Jackets.
Softball
New Hope 16, West Point 0
The New Hope softball team cruised to a 16-0 victory over West Point Monday, led by a two-hit, three-RBI effort from Adi Duett. Duett also threw three shutout innings with four strikeouts in the circle.
Zoe Goodman also collected two hits for the Trojans (5-6) in addition to walking twice. Laylah Henderson had a team-high three walks.
Tennis
Heritage Academy 6, Starkville 3
The Heritage Academy tennis team defeated Starkville 6-3 Monday in Starkville.
On the girls side, Heritage’s Anne Clark Shepherd took down Starkville’s Abby Berkley 6-2, 6-1 at No. 1 singles, while Starkville’s Martina Hoffman defeated Shannon McElhinny 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Heritage took No. 1 doubles 6-2, 6-0, while Starkville captured the No. 2 doubles victory 2-6, 6-1, 1-0.
On the boys side, Owen Riley (HA) bested Dean Lockhart (SHS) 3-6, 6-2, 1-0 at the No. 1 spot while Luca Hoffman (SHS) took down Blake Ward (HA) 6-2, 6-3 at No. 2. Heritage swept the boys doubles competition, winning 6-2, 6-0 at No. 1 and 6-3, 0-6, 1-0 at No. 2. Mixed doubles went to Heritage by scores of 6-0, 6-1.
Heritage will be back in action on Tuesday against Lamar Academy at the Magnolia Tennis Club.
