STARKVILLE — Mississippi State is down one more player on an already shorthanded roster.
Junior forward Xaria Wiggins announced via Twitter Tuesday night that she will seek a transfer from MSU. A former four-star recruit in the 2018 class, Wiggins averaged 3.4 points and 1.4 rebounds per game during her three-year Bulldog career.
“I want to thank you all for an incredible three years in Starkville, and thank you to Mississippi State University for the opportunity to pursue my degree while also playing the game I love,” she wrote. “Thank you to the fans for your continued support. And last but not least, thank you to my teammates. I will always cherish the time we had together.”
Wiggins previously missed the first month-plus of the 2020-21 season due to a blood clot in her right lung, while a concussion also briefly sidelined her in January. Returning to the floor against No. 18 Kentucky on Jan. 3, she averaged double-digit minutes her first five games back. However, Wiggins saw more than eight minutes just twice over her final six games at MSU.
MSU currently sits at 10-9 with a 5-7 mark in the SEC after falling to eighth-seeded LSU in the first round of the conference tournament. ESPN bracketologist Charlie Creme has the Bulldogs slated as one of the final four teams in the NCAA tournament. The 64-team field will be announced on March 15.
