DJ Jackson posted a triple-double as the Columbus High School girls basketball team beat West Point 58-23 on Tuesday on the Falcons’ home court in a MHSAA Class 5A, Region 2 tournament semifinal.
Jackson had 14 points, 10 assists and 10 steals for the Falcons.
Makayla Rieves had a double-double with 15 points and 13 rebounds, and Shania Givens had 11 points.
Later Tuesday, the New Hope girls advanced to face Columbus in Thursday’s district championship game with a 47-42 win over Grenada.
Anna Prince had 16 points to lead the Trojans. Taylor Brownlee had 10, and Madyson McBrayer had nine.
Columbus will play New Hope in the championship at 6:15 p.m. Thursday.
West Point will play Grenada in the third-place game at 4 p.m. Wednesday.

Starkville girls 62, South Panola 46, Monday
The Starkville High School girls advanced to the Region 3-6A final with a 62-46 win over South Panola on Monday at Germantown.
The Yellow Jackets will take on the host Mavericks in the championship game at 6 p.m. Thursday in Madison.
MHSAA Class 1A, Region 5 tournament — at McAdams
West Lowndes girls 49, Nanih Waiya 35, Monday
The West Lowndes girls beat Nanih Waiya 49-35 on Monday at the Region 5-1A tournament at McAdams High School.
West Lowndes will face Ethel at 6 p.m. Friday for the district championship.
MAIS Class 4A north state tournament — at Pillow Academy
Starkville Academy boys 62, Washington School 22
The Starkville Academy boys beat Washington School 62-22 on Tuesday in the MAIS Class 4A north regional tournament to clinch a spot in the state tourney.
Randall Futral led the Volunteers with 10 points. Cy Hallberg scored nine, and Rett Keenum had eight. Starkville Academy led 54-12 at the half in a strong defensive effort.
The Vols will play at 7 p.m. Friday against the winner of Wednesday’s game between Heritage Academy and Bayou Academy.
Pillow Academy girls 67, Starkville Academy 38
The Volunteers’ girls team was eliminated with a 67-38 loss to host and No. 1 seed Pillow Academy on Tuesday.

FLOWOOD — The Starkville Academy baseball team lost Tuesday’s road game at Jackson Prep, 1-0.
Ayden Alsobrooks performed well on the mound for the Volunteers in the pitchers’ duel with six strikeouts in six innings. Harris McReynolds had three hits for Starkville Academy.
The Vols will host Bessemer Academy (Alabama) on Saturday in the SA Classic.

STARKVILLE — The Starkville Academy boys lost Tuesday’s home match to Lamar School, 3-1.
The Volunteers earned the No. 2 seed in their district and will play at Pillow Academy next week in Greenwood.
