The Heritage Academy baseball team won its season opener Monday, knocking off Jackson Academy 5-3.
Cole Ketchum and Rhett Ketchum each pitched three innings for the Patriots, with Cole racking up five strikeouts. Cole and Carson Hollis each drove in a run for the Patriots, which moved to 1-0 on the year.
Starkville Academy 4, Hartfield Academy 2
The Starkville Academy baseball team also won its season opener, taking down Hartfield Academy 4-2 in Starkville. Colby Allen drove in two runs and pitched three innings, while Drew Williams turned in four innings on the mound.
West Point archery finishes third in tournament
The Green Wave archery team finished in third place at a three-team archery tournament in Amory after collecting 2,857 points. Itawamba finished first with 3,261 points and Amory second with 3,157 points. The Green Wave’s top female shooter was Lidia Portera with 262 points, while Emanuel Thompson led the males with 269 points.
West Point Archery coach Steve Cannon said he was proud of his team’s fight despite missing three athletes because of baseball practice.
“I’m proud of my team for competing with some of the top archery teams in the state of Mississippi,” Cannon said.

West Lowndes fell in its district tournament opener to Nanih Waiya 67-66 Monday at McAdams. West Lowndes will play again at 7:30 p.m. Thursday.
