Starkville Academy running back CJ Jackson was named the Midsouth Association of Independent Schools Class 5A offensive player of the year, the league announced Monday.
Jackson finished his Starkville Academy career with 4,679 rushing yards over three seasons.
His teammate, defensive back Brody Pierce, joined him on the All-MAIS Class 5A team Monday.
Heritage Academy offensive lineman Reed Brewer, wide receiver Trey Naugher and defensive lineman John Jackson were also represented.
Columbus Christian Academy defensive lineman Tyler Looney and Hebron Christian School punter Dash Turman were named all-MAIS Class 2A.
Vols beat Pillow Academy to improve to 5-0
The Starkville Academy boys soccer team improved its record to 5-0 with a 3-0 road win over Pillow Academy on Monday.
Benjamin Wiley, Wilkes Stubbs and Brody Pierce scored goals for the Volunteers.
Starkville Academy hosts Nettleton on Tuesday.
Caledonia volleyball names four to all-region team
The Caledonia High School volleyball team had four players named to the MHSAA Class 4A, Region 2 all-district team.
Emily Clark, Zoe Hansen, Libby McMurphey and Lily Rose Parker all made the list.
Caledonia’s season concluded with a loss to Corinth in the second round of the Class 4A playoffs.
Tangle on the Trail canceled
The Tangle on the Trail basketball tournament, set for Jan. 2 in Pontotoc, has been canceled because of COVID-19 concerns.
Starkville High School’s two varsity teams were slated to play in the event. The Jackets girls were scheduled to play Belmont at 11:30 a.m. while the boys faced Callaway at 6:30 p.m.
West Lowndes’ girls team was also supposed to participate. The Panthers were set to face Ingomar at 9 a.m.
