The East Mississippi Community College women’s basketball team fended off Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College 53-47 in the first round of the MACJC tournament on Tuesday in Scooba.
Tye Metcalf had 14 points and six rebounds for the top-seeded Lions (22-2) against the No. 4-seeded Bulldogs. Taylor Lattimore scored 11 points and added three rebounds, Ja’Mia Hollings had eight points and 13 rebounds, and Topazia Hawkins had nine points.
The Lions (22-2) advance to face Southwest Mississippi Community College, which beat Holmes Community College 62-56 in Tuesday’s first round, at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
