New Hope High School advanced in the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 5A baseball playoffs with a 3-2 win over Neshoba Central Saturday night at Trojan Field.
New Hope will face either Germantown or Satillo in the third round of the playoffs. That series will start Thursday night.
New Hope advanced with a 2-0 series win as Saturday’s win came on the heels of a 4-0 win over Neshoba Central Friday night.
Saturday night, New Hope scored twice in the first inning, including an RBI-single by Carson Forrester.
Payton Lane then added a critical insurance score with an RBI-single in the sixth inning.
Forrester picked up the win, throwing 5-2/3 innings, allowing six hits and one run, with nine strikeouts.
Peyton Buckner threw a shutout in the series opener Friday night for the Trojans.
New Hope (19-11) has allowed six runs in four playoffs wins.
In Class 4A, Caledonia saw its season end with an 8-1 road loss to Pontotoc Saturday night.
Pontotoc won the series opener, 5-1 Friday night at Caledonia.
The Confederates finish the season 19-12.
