STARKVILLE — Mississippi State is approaching a record for season-ticket sales.
A little more than a month before MSU faces Jackson State on Sept. 5 in Starkville, the school”s ticket office announced it has sold 37,523 season tickets.
Last week, 600 season tickets were sold to push MSU closer to eclipsing the school record of 38,440 sold prior to the 2001 season.
The ticket office updates its numbers each Tuesday.
The goal for the athletic department is to sell at least 40,000 tickets, and MSU Athletic Director Greg Byrne always wants the Bulldogs to play in front of packed houses at Davis-Wade Stadium.
“We are pleased with where we are, but we can”t be satisfied until we have a sold-out stadium,” Byrne said Friday.
There are a limited number of lower level season tickets remaining, and individual game tickets will go on sale to the general public Monday through the Bryan Athletic Administration Building.
Student tickets also will be made available this month.

Byrne realizes fans are concerned about scalpers of tickets at major athletic events. To avoid any problems, Byrne has met with law enforcement officials to discuss the activity of individuals selling tickets on the street.
New ticket-scanning technology has been installed at all athletic events that require price of admission.
Tickets that are previously re-sold by scalpers on the street might not be valid based on what transpired with the ticket prior to the scalper receiving it.
Byrne explained in his weekly newsletter on the athletic Web site that the school”s new ticket advance system, in which a ticket holder can provide their ticket to a third party, renders the original ticket invalid.
Similarly, if someone enters the stadium and the bar code on their ticket is scanned and the individual attempts to have his ticket scalped outside the stadium, the buyer would be unable to enter the game.
