Companies are still trying to learn how to best use social media for marketing and profit. In next week''s column I plan on giving some tips on how local businesses can use social media for promotions. For now let''s look at a handful of interesting contests that are currently running online.
Google just announced the fourth annual Doodle 4 Google art contest for K-12 children in the U.S. The theme is "What I''d like to do some day." The winning doodle will be featured on Google''s homepage, and the winning doodler will receive a $15,000 scholarship. The doodler''s school will receive a $25,000 technology grant. The registration deadline is March 2 and entries must be postmarked by March 16.

Looking for a Levi''s Girl
Levi''s is using Facebook to find an online spokeswoman for their line of women''s clothes. The legendary jean company is seeking a "hip, social media savvy and passionate about life" individual who can help promote the company online. To enter this contest, submit a 1-2 minute video, explaining why you would be a perfect fit for the role. The top five applicants will be posted on Levi''s Facebook Page to be voted on by the public.
