A T-38 trainer jet from Columbus Air Force Base crashed in Montgomery, Alabama, on Friday night, killing both pilots.

A CAFB press release confirmed the plane went down at about 5:30 p.m. near Dannelly Field, an Air Force National Guard base in Montgomery. The pilots were flying a training mission when the crash occurred.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with the families of the two pilots involved in this incident," said Col. Seth Graham, CAFB commander. "There are no words that can describe the sadness that accompanies the loss of our teammates."

Officials did not release the names of the pilots Friday since next of kin were still being notified.
