Bring on the gumbo, y’all. Starkville is getting a taste of the Louisiana life with a different kind of sports bar.
After opening a franchise in Hattiesburg, Walk-On’s Bistreaux is further expanding into Mississippi with Starkville, Meridian and Tupelo locations coming soon.
The sports bar founder and owner Brandon Landry said Starkville is the “priority” location for Mississippi. Walk-On’s first opened in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and has since expanded to more than 38 locations, with more than 100 in development.
Starkville franchise owners Eddie and Allen Grant are already in the midst of their real-estate search, Landry added. By this time next year, Landry hopes to have the restaurant open for business.
“We’re excited to be (in Starkville),” Landry said. “It’s a market that’s right for us. … Wherever we go, we get involved in the community — with charities, schools, churches. We want the community to hold us to that. That’s what got us off the ground 17 years ago and it’s what we’re about.”
Landry said the Starkville sports bar will be about 7,000 square feet, accommodate 250 guests, have 80 televisions, an outdoor beer garden and up to 50 beers on tap. Sports fanatics, get ready for some Louisiana cuisine with po’boys, gumbos, soups and more.
We’ve got more news in Starkville with Lisa Hanna, Reiki master, opening Artemis Moon June 1 at 1107 Stark Road.
Artemis Moon will be a place for those to find holistic healing with energy work, mediation and life coaching. Reiki is an alternative medicinal treatment of “energy healing” and is the act of transferring “universal energy” through the palms of the “healer” to the patient, in order to increase emotional or physical healing.
About 15 years ago, Hanna was experiencing constant panic attacks and anxiety while pregnant. Through her mediation techniques, she said she nearly eliminated them entirely.
“My hope is to help others with the same skills,” she said. “I’ve found that it doesn’t matter if your goal is weight loss, stress reduction or even confidence building to prepare for the next career or relationship goal, these techniques can really help you get there.”
Be sure to check out Artemis Moon on social media to stay current for hours, classes and updates.

Moving out to Highway 82, the Columbus trucking company Volume Freight has been purchased by Jones Logistics. Headquartered in Hattiesburg, Jones Logistics announced the acquisition of the Columbus logistics company earlier this year.
“Volume was a natural fit to add to our team, as the culture aligns with our own core values of integrity, passion, unity, sustainability and humility,” Brian Haynes, president of Jones Logistics, said in a press release.
Volume Freight employed about 80 workers. With that addition, Jones Logistics now employs 257 workers and boasts offices in New Berlin, Wisconsin, Lyons, Illinois and now Columbus.
“Volume and its employees are proud to join forces with Jones to build even stronger offerings to our customers,” Doug Estes, former owner of Volume Freight, said in the press release. “Jones is known for its high quality and ability to advance businesses and employees alike. We believe in their vision and look forward to being a part of that advancement.”
