The East Mississippi Community College women’s rodeo team finished first and the men’s team finished second at the Three Rivers College Championship College Rodeo over the weekend in Sikeston, Missouri.
Freshman Jaylie Matthews and sophomore Blair Bryant combined to haul in all 375 points for the women’s team. Matthews had winning times of 16.61 and 16.72 seconds in her specialty event to tally 180 points. Bryant won the breakaway roping competition with a time of 6.6 seconds to net 165 points and scored 30 more points by collaborating with Wyatt McCann of West Alabama.
Arkansas-Monticello finished a distant second in the women’s competition with 205 points, and Missouri Valley College had 175.
Missouri Valley won the men’s event with 795 points, while EMCC’s 590 was good for second. West Alabama was third at 555, and UT Martin had 550.
Sophomores Weston Pender and Clay Green won the team roping competition with times of 7.3 and 7.7 seconds to net 300 points, and sophomore Myles Neighbors won the steer wrestling event for the third straight time to score 140 points.
EMCC’s rodeo teams will return to NIRA Ozark Region action from Oct. 31-Nov. 2 at Southern Arkansas in Magnolia, Arkansas.
