Authorities with Lowndes County Sheriff’s Office are searching for a suspect in a roadside armed robbery Tuesday afternoon.
Deputies responded to a call about the robbery at about 1:45 p.m., LCSO Capt. Greg Wright said. According to the LCSO incident report, the victim in the case told deputies he had stopped on the side of Barton Ferry Road to assist the driver of a black Honda Accord that had pulled off the road, supposedly because of a flat tire. He said when he got out of his own vehicle to help, the driver pulled a gun on him and demanded his wallet.
The victim told the suspect he didn’t have his wallet on him, according to the incident report. The suspect then went through the victim’s truck but did not take anything. He threw the victim’s truck keys into a ditch and drove off in his own vehicle toward Highway 45 North.
The victim said the suspect was a heavy set black male about six feet tall. He estimated his age to be around 30.
Wright asked anyone with information on the incident to call LCSO at 662-328-6788 or Golden Triangle Crime Stoppers at 1-800-530-7151.
