BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Mississippi State’s Quinndary Weatherspoon and Aric Holman, Ole Miss’ Terence Davis, and Alabama’s Donta Hall and Herbert Jones were named Tuesday to the preseason All-Southeastern Conference team.
Weatherspoon earned first-team All-SEC honors, while Holman, Davis, Hall, and Jones were named to the second team.
Auburn, Florida, Kentucky, and Tennessee also had two players selected.
The last time MSU had two players listed on the coaches’ preseason teams was 2015-16.
Weatherspoon has been a first-team selection each of the last three seasons. He is 17th on MSU’s all-time scoring list. He is 21 points shy of passing Jarvis Varnado (2007-09-09-10).
Holman has improved his stat line in each of his first three seasons with the Bulldogs. He provided 10.9 points, 6.7 rebounds and 1.8 blocked shots per game last season.
This is the second-straight season Davis has earned preseason recognition. He enters his final season as a Rebel 39th on the all-time list in scoring with 1,011 career points.
Last season, Davis led Ole Miss in scoring (13.8 points) and rebounding (6.2 rebounds).
Hall, a senior forward, is Alabama’s leading returning scorer (10.6 points per game). Last season, he set the program record with 72.6 percent field goal percentage.
The 6-foot-9, 230-pounder earned a spot on the SEC All-Defensive team a year ago.
Jones, a 6-7, 206-pound guard/forward, led the Crimson Tide and ranked seventh in the SEC in steals per game (1.3) last season. He also set the program record for charges taken in a season (23). The Greensboro, Alabama, native averaged 4.2 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.
The coaches’ preseason All-SEC first and second teams feature a minimum of eight players on each squad, voted on by the SEC head men’s basketball coaches. No ties were broken and no predicted order of finish was made.
In all, 39 players received votes.
MSU will play host to Austin Peay at 6:30 p.m. Friday. Ole Miss will play host to Western Michigan 3 p.m. Saturday.
