In accordance with applicable health codes, the local observance of the 2021 National Day of Prayer will take place on the lawn of the Lowndes County Courthouse at Noon on Thursday, May 6th. The 45 minute program will feature local pastors and lay people from various Christian denominations along with special music and congregational singing. Second Avenue in front of the Courthouse will be closed to through traffic but vans and buses can enter to discharge passengers. With the street closed, there will be plenty of room to social distance. Seating will be provided for those who are unable to stand for the program. The event will move to the downtown YMCA in case of inclement weather.
This is an anniversary year as America celebrates the 70th year since Congress declared there would be an annual day of prayer, the National Day of Prayer. It is the tenth year that the event has been sponsored locally by the Christian Community in Prayer, a group of pastors and lay people from the Columbus/Lowndes area who believe in the power of God’s people coming together to pray for our churches, families, schools, military, government, businesses, and the media. Please plan to meet with friends and neighbors as we join with others across America on May 6th as our nation gathers to pray.
If you are unable to attend, please note that the event will be streaming live on Christian Community in Prayer of Columbus Facebook page.
