Corrects headline on previous letter
My response, printed in The Dispatch on January 7, regarding Mr. Gilmore’s letter of January 6, was emailed under the subject line “Re Personalities during conflict.” The editor who added “Agrees with letter” to “Personalities during conflict” obviously missed a history lesson on the prelude to WWII and the diplomatic disposition of Neville Chamberlain. I most certainly did not agree with Mr. Gilmore’s opinion. Quite the contrary.
In Mr. Gilmore’s rant about the manly wars fought by GOP presidents, he failed to mention FDR’s role in WWII, Truman’s use of atomic weapons in WWII and role in Korea, JFK’s Bay of Pigs, or Johnson’s escalation in Viet Nam.
I conclude that partisan hatred of President Trump has caused selective memory deficit disorder among liberal progressive Democrats. Such hypocritical rants are not helpful to the country. Nor is ignorance of history, which is especially regrettable in journalistic media.
