Appreciates column on litter
I am very appreciative of you writing this column. One of the things which irks me are the trashy roadways in Lowndes County! Many years ago I took a bus trip through Tennessee, Kentucky, Ohio, and around the Great Lakes. I noticed how clean the roadways were. And as did you, I also noticed when we got back into Mississippi how the roadways were trashy! It is a bad reflection on the character of the people who live here. They must be too lazy to place it in a bag until they get to a trash receptacle. I wish our law enforcement would enforce the littering law. I copied the following from sp.mdot.ms.gov website: “The Mississippi Department of Transportation spends well over $3 million each year for litter removal from state maintained highways, and still this is not enough to keep our roadways clean. In fact, a recent survey showed that Mississippi is 30 percent more littered than other states. This is a disgrace.”
