Evidently The Columbus Packet article (which I did not read) struck a sore spot with Mayor Smith. Some old Southern sayings I know of seem to fit this situation and I quote, ” A bit dog always hollers”; “he protests too much”; “where there’s smoke there is bound to be a fire.”
In so far as I know, it appears he has made a fairly good mayor; however he has failed to follow an old Jim Folsom saying (a former Alabama governor): “My mama told me not to wash off the mud that your opponents sling on you, but just let it dry and it will brush off.”
The good Mayor by now should have learned that all politicians are subject to being accused rightly or wrongly, and nothing he says or writes will change that.
