I love how there are so many opportunities to be involved in the community, MUW and with the military of Mississippi. I especially LOVE how the United Way of Lowndes County organizes volunteers and distributes donated time and effort ~ giving back to our own community to make it even better than how we found it.
I feel fortunate to have an honorary position on the Lowndes County United Way Board; an honor given because of my husband”s position as wing commander of Columbus Air Force Base. It gives a wonderful glimpse of the true heart of Columbus as so much time, so much talent and so much treasure is given. Even though I was honored when asked to be a part of the United Way Board, I didn”t want to be a part of something that I didn”t philosophically agree with.
United Way of Lowndes County probably supports different agencies than Oregon, Washington, California, Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, etc… The support is usually based on the area”s political, social and personal priorities.
People working in your businesses, companies and individual offices may have had exposure personally, to family members or friends in other states; they may have been told that United Way does support abortions. And that may be true in other places. Please help relay the information that United Way in Lowndes County does not support abortions, because they choose where over 99 percent of their funds go. The donated funds stay in this area.
United Way of Lowndes County funds more than 20 local agencies, programs and services, touching people from all walks of life. Especially with the economic crisis, it is good to think about how each dollar is being spent. You can be assured any donation to United Way of Lowndes County is the best ever spent with over 99 percent of each dollar building a stronger community made up of stronger individuals.
