leaders are feckless on how to respond. I understand this is Europe’s / NATO’s problems, but America is funding the Russian’s war machine by buying their oil. We have enough oil here to last for years. Drill, drill, drill! What part of being self-sufficient do the Democrats not understand? I do hope there are things going on subvertly by NATO that are helping the Ukrainians. Biden’s sanctions were a little too late. They don’t have months to see. This action by Putin shows who the real puppet in America’s government is. Can’t Biden send his son, who he described as the smartest man he knew, to Russia and Ukraine because of his business ties? Asking for a friend.
Now to local matters. I have addressed drainage issues for many years. It is good for the city engineer and other officials to address the matter. It took the city hiring a consultant, spending dollars we don’t have to to address the obvious. Then the public works director says it’s an equipment problem or lack thereof. Four men and a truck have been driving the roads for years. I have personally cleaned out ditches and culverts in my neighborhood for years. The debris is put at the edge of the street and soon it is back in the ditch. Many times the four men and a truck drive by, one driving, two sleeping and one on the cell phone. I don’t think more pay will correct this. Initiative and leadership will. Both of these are lacking. There are curb gutter drains that have been stopped up for years, Rebecca Lane and Browder Street, is just one intersection I see weekly. The ditch west of Gardner Boulevard that drains Masonic Subdivision is another. Hemlock behind Cash and Carry drains a large area that needs attention. Where is our hot mix machine? My neighborhood could use it. This information cost the city nothing. I’m just trying to be a concerned citizen that wants our city officials to be good stewards of our tax dollars. Matching grant money is not a great financial move. We have an unfinished amphitheater, a new fire station that no one knows how much the $750,000 project cost, wanting to spend money on Propst Park and now more money at the soccer complex. There are numerous other unfinished projects, and the politicians want to borrow money for others. There is not a lot of rational thinking coming from some of our leaders.
All these thoughts are from a Lee High graduate that has spent numerous nights at the Holiday Inn Express.
God Bless America.
