I enjoyed the Mississippi State 2022 Baseball Season Preview Special Edition in Sunday’s paper.
I thought it was well done and presented in a very professional manner. However, I would like to point out one small paragraph located on page 35. In the article entitled “Building A Legacy” about the baseball dynasty created by Coach Ron Polk, the paragraph reads as follows: “In truth, Mississippi’s journey to the 2021 National Championship did not begin when the season started, nor even with Lemonis’ arrival in Starkville.” Is it just me, or does anyone else notice the fact that the author Slim Smith used the word “Mississippi,” instead of saying “Mississippi State”? Since the entire magazine is in fact about the MSU team, would it not have been appropriate to give credit to them rather than giving the impression that the quote implies it refers to the team up north? I sincerely hope this was just an error by Mr. Smith, and an editorial oversight in not correcting this mistake.
Otherwise, I take it as a slight on the MSU baseball team and their extraordinary accomplishment last season. I would like to hear the explanation from Mr. Smith and the paper what exactly was meant in this article. Go Dawgs!

Editor’s note: We consider Mississippi State’s journey to the National Championship a win for the entire state, not just for Starkville. No other college team in the state — Ole Miss included — has ever won a baseball National Championship. The wording was intended to refer to the state as a whole, not any one school.
