Mr. Wyatt Emmerich states in his column that some of the things that Facebook has been doing recently has had the effect of reducing real news on Facebook and replacing it with angry rants.
The next thing you know, a mob is storming our Congress.
It appears to me that Mr. Emmerich wants the people to believe that Facebook was the cause of the riots.
He doesn’t mention what the rants were, but we all know why a mob stormed Congress, because Trump and the Republican party claimed Biden stole the election from Trump because of fraud at the polls.
Facebook suspended Trump indefinitely for encouraging violence during the Jan. 6 riot. The board agreed that Trump’s comments on the day of the insurrection created an environment where a serious risk of violence was possible. Proof that Facebook is for real news and can deal with it being untruthful also.
Twitter permanently banned Trump, and YouTube banned him indefinitely.
Social media certainly knows how to deal with political leaders who abuse them to spread lies and incite violence.
It appears that some people want to punish social media because they don’t like what they are doing, the same as they didn’t like the outcome of the election.
To repeal Section 230 would be playing into the hands of liars and conspiracy theorists.
