Well, son of a gun, you can’t make this stuff up. The paper reported it so it must be true. In a special called meeting, four of six council members voted to replace two highly qualified volunteers who work for no pay and hire highly paid replacements ASAP using our hard earned tax money of course. Plus the same four members still say “no way” to an audit that the majority of our voters want to happen, even when it’s no cost to our city budget. Some of their constituents are probably saying, “My 5th grader has more common sense than that.” Now to top it all off, as reported in the paper, one of the four just gets up and walks out of the special called meeting.
Now it’s true that they all work for us, and are paid a considerable amount to act as adults and earn their pay by at least sitting through all the meetings of our council.
What can we do if this trend keeps up? We can seek more qualified replacements in our wards to run against them in our next election. There must be a few good prospects out there who want to work part time. What about military retirees? I know a few who have settled here just as I did and want to have part time work. I for one will be recruiting the next two years. The campaign needs to start 18 months before the election. But start taking notes and attending meetings though ASAP.
