If you’re like me, you find it appalling the way in which our new mayor is being treated by council members. It seems the “old guard” or those who have been there before, don’t want us to know “where the money went”! If you don’t have anything to hide, why oppose an audit of city finances?
If I were in the position of mayor or new council member, I certainly would want a clear understanding of just where we stand financially. If you’ve ever worked in business, you have to know this is imperative.
You do realize that our city ran $800,000 deficits two years in a row. How do we do that without someone trying to find out why? I know some expenses were above the expected, but from what I remember reading there were times when suites were rented rather than a normal motel or hotel room as most of us would have had to enjoy! But, that can’t account for all of the deficits.
Another thing that really bothered me is the feeling I got upon reading excerpts from the last meeting. It seemed to me the “older” council members had the attitude of “I guess you see where you stand, Mr. Mayor.” “We’re running this show.” I do not like that!
The council is responsible to the citizens of Columbus. You were elected to serve us and to work together for the betterment of Columbus. I’d surely like to see some of that instead of the bickering that seems to be going on at the present time. If you don’t want to be a part of the whole, then perhaps you should resign! Else, work together.
