Who’s on first?
Remember the “Who’s one first, What’s on second” skit? That gives you an idea of the council meeting Tuesday evening. The fireman’s raise, that was tabled last meeting was not mentioned. Word on the street has it, the mayor was “NOT HAPPY” it was brought up in the first place at the last meeting. But who knows what goes on behind closed doors, as the Charlie Rich song goes. The financial report was given, by the CFO rapidly, with one comment given, which could not be heard by the gallery. All smiles from the council. And the report was approved. We’ve got money in the bank I guess, but who knows.
Did I say the council meeting is a spectator sport before? “I don’t know who’s on third” as the skit goes because, when Mr. Irby came to address the council about awarding the low contract for doing the demolition of six blighted properties, not a single council member had a copy of the bids. Deer in the headlights reaction. The deadline for the bids was September 30, when they were opened. Now the way I understand it, Mr. Irby had the approval from the Federal Grant officials to take the low bid. But it was tabled. This is no way to do business. The city gives deadlines on bids, but doesn’t give those bids to the council for approval? Something is just not right with this. Could it be the bid was not the one’s the city wanted? Makes a fellow wonder. But that’s me. Well enough about that. I was going to address drainage in our fair city, but that’s for another day. Pray for our city.
God bless Columbus and America.
