Thoughts on LCSD stakeholders meeting
I went to the “Stakeholders” meeting held by the Lowndes County School District Thursday night. The theme of the meeting was to gather input on what we thought the qualifications for the next Superintendent should be. I went fully prepared to express my thoughts on the status of the District as well as my thoughts on the current Superintendent Mr. Lynn Wright. When I arrived and saw the list of 10 rules that anyone who wished to speak had to abide by, myself and everyone else but 4 people decided not to speak. So I am writing this letter to the editor to list my concerns / qualifications for the new Superintendent.
1. The next Superintendent should NOT be one of the “good ole boy network”.
2. The next Superintendent should be ethical and not maneuver personnel to make sure he/she would have a job as the vocational director.
3. The next Superintendent should hold administrators accountable for their actions and give the public one story while hiding behind “it is a personnel issue”.
4. The next Superintendent should not promote bond issues and programs that cause the district to overspend $13,000,000 in the last 6 years.
I think this is a great opportunity for the Lowndes County School District to have a fresh start. By all indications the Columbus School district has hit a home run with the hiring of Dr. Cherie Labat. The District has a tremendously dedicated and qualified group of teachers – they deserve a Superintendent that will lead us in the future.
