HUEYTOWN, Ala. — Zettie Fort Burnette died March 9, 2009, in Birmingham, Ala. Services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at Calvary Christian Center Baptist Church with Pastor Steve Jamison officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery. Visitation is today from 3-8 p.m. at Carter’s Funeral Services of Columbus. Mrs. Burnette was born in Columbus to the late Sylvester and Melissa Cowson McGee. She was an educator for Columbus public schools and a member of Calvary Christian Center, Order of Eastern Star, Heroines of Jericho, Daughters of Isis, Zeta Phi Beta sorority and National Teachers Association. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters, Hattie Coleman and Mattie McGee. She is survived by her children, Pastor Robert L. Brown Jr. of Columbus, Marion Laverne Carver of Bowling Green, Ky., and LaBeatrix Fort Tatum of Birmingham, Ala.; sisters, Sylvia Richardson of Columbus, Betty Robinson of Fort Valley, Ga., Irma Woods of Los Angeles and Melissa Atkins of Flint, Mich.; 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Colandus Barlow, Robert L. Brown III, Aaron Carver, Christopher G. and Ryan R.P. Reaves and Kevin Richardson.
