CARROLLTON, Ala. — Winnie S. Spain, 74, died June 3, 2009, at Druid City Hospital in Tuscaloosa, Ala. Services are today at 1 p.m. at Skelton Funeral Home Chapel in Reform, Ala., with the Rev. Edward Spain officiating. Burial will follow at Pilgrim Rest Cemetery. Mrs. Spain was born June 3, 1935, in Pickens County, Ala., to the late Oscar Scarbrough Sr. and Bessie Marquis Scarbrough. She attended Oasis Fellowship Church in Tuscaloosa, was the retired owner and operator of Carrollton BP Service Station for 26 years and a lifelong resident of Pickens County. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Herbert Spain; sister, Brenda Willey; and brother, Oscar Scarbrough Jr. She is survived by her daughters, Sarah Noland of Carrollton, Ala., Christie McCullough of Millport, Ala., and Betsy Humphreys of Fosters, Ala.; brother, Thomas Scarbrough of Gordo, Ala.; and four grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Charles and Chuck McDaniel, Tim Strickland, Ronnie Summerville, Virgil Spain and Ronnie Hatfield.
