Willie Earl Gunn, 75, died May 24, 2009, at Druid City Hospital-Tuscaloosa, Ala. Services are Saturday at 1 p.m. at Tenth Avenue Church of Christ in Columbus with Bro. Willie James Hampton officiating. Burial will follow at Corinth Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Corinth. Visitation is today from 3-8 p.m. at Carter’s Funeral Services of Columbus. Mr. Gunn was born March 20, 1934, in Egypt, Miss., to the late Woodrow Gunn Sr. and Melvina Gillespie Gunn. He served in the U.S. Army from 1952-1956. He had worked various jobs including as a toll collector, a machinist and real estate salesman. He was retired from the U.S. Department of the Treasury. He was a former member of Matubby Church of Christ in Aberdeen where he served as a treasurer. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Gail Renee Jamison; and siblings, Helen Clopton, Larry Gunn and Loistine Barber. He is survived by his wife, Shirley Gunn of Columbus; children, Detra Gunn of Round Rock, Texas, Apryl Gunn of Sugarland, Texas, David Keith Gillespie of Vacaville, Calif., Anthony Wayne Gillespie of Richmond, Va., Mickey Jamerson of Richmond, Calif., and Lorraine Jamerson of Oakland, Calif.; siblings, Laban Gunn Sr. of Florida, Windell Gunn of Omaha, Neb., Woodrow Gunn Jr. of Okolona, Victoria James of Aberdeen, Albert Gunn of Aberdeen, and Leon Gunn of Okolona; and a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Anthony Keith Gunn, Labon Gunn Jr., Lee Andrew Gunn, Kenny Ray Barker, Ceaser Sherrod and Victor Swanigan.
