William Sykes Jr., 93, died March 1, 2009, at Baptist Memorial Hospital–Golden Triangle. Services are Saturday at noon at Harrison Grove MB Church in Brooksville with the Rev. Billy Goodwin officiating. Burial will follow at Pilgrim Rest Cemetery in Brooksville. Visitation is today from noon-5 p.m. with family hour from 6-7 p.m. at Lee-Sykes Funeral Home of Macon. Mr. Sykes was born Nov. 22, 1915, in Brooksville to the late William and Mary Washington Sykes Sr. He was a retired farmer and had been employed with Airline Manufacturing Co. and Mississippi University for Women. He was a member of Harrison Grove Baptist Church in Brooksville and had been a member of Bright Farm Union. He is survived by his wife, Willie B. Lomas of Brooksville; sons, William, Billy and Henry L. Sykes, all of Chicago, and David L. Sykes of Brooksville; daughters, Annie L. Anthony of Crawford, Willie D. Wilcher of Chicago, and Martha D. Harris and Helen Sharp, both of Brooksville; brothers, George Sykes and James Sykes of Brooksville; 35 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
