STARKVILLE — William Fred Jones, 86, died Jan. 17, 2018, at his residence. Services are 2 p.m. Friday at Welch Funeral Home Chapel in Starkville with Clifton Curtis officiating. Visitation is Friday two hours prior to services at Welch Funeral Home in Starkville. Mr. Jones was born Sept. 11, 1931, in Sebastopol to the late Howard and Hautense Jones. He graduated from Mississippi State University with a doctorate in agronomy and was a professor and participated in field crop research. He was a charter member of the Emanuel Baptist Church, past member of Calvary Baptist Church and was current member of First Baptist Church of Starkville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife, Mary Miller Jones; brother, Jesse Jones of Brandon, Florida; sister, Linda Norris of Purvis; daughters, Brenda Teel of Madison and Becky McInnis of Wesson; son, Jeff Jones of Niceville, Florida; and five grandchildren.
