ABERDEEN — Wilford Herman Barnett, 91, died Feb. 22, 2009, at Gilmore Memorial Hospital–Amory. Graveside services are Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Oddfellows Rest Cemetery with Minister Charles Tharp officiating. Tisdale-Lann Memorial Funeral Home in Aberdeen is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Barnett was born Dec. 1, 1917, in Paducah, Ky., to the late Jesse Barnett Sr. and Amanda Moore Barnett. He moved to Macon in 1923 and graduated from Macon High School. He lived in Aberdeen for the past 60 years. He retired in sales from Butler Manufacturing Co. He was an aviation machinist mate first class in the U.S. Navy in World War II. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Chambers Barnett; and sons, Ronnie and Joel Wilford Barnett. He is survived by his sisters, Mary L. Thorsen of Macon and Dorothy Eleveyn Barnett Burleson of Birmingham, Ala.; brothers, Jesse Paul Barnett Jr. of Meridian and James Lester Barnett of Macon; one grandson and one great-grandchild.
