WEST POINT — Virgil R. Baker, 78, died June 2, 2009, at his residence. Services are Friday at 10 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church in West Point with Dr. James Towery officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Garden Cemetery in West Point. Visitation is today from 5-8 p.m. at Calvert Funeral Home in West Point. Mr. Baker was born Aug. 1, 1930, in Baltimore, Ohio, to the late Doris May Morton Baker and the Rev. Emmitt Vernon Baker. He had worked in insurance and real estate sales, also as a telephone lineman, then later in carpentry as a home builder working in various aspects of home remodeling. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church. He was a U.S. Army veteran, having served during the early 1950’s. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Eileen Van Fossen; and one granddaughter. He is survived by his wife, Doris May Tucker Baker of West Point; daughters, Debbie St. Louis of West Point and Pam O’Connor of Sarasota, Fla.; brothers, Willard Baker of Raleigh, N.C., and Mike Baker of Logan, Ohio; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Pallbearers will be Byron Acker, Clark Baker, Mike Pearson, Henry Myers, Todd Glusenkamp and Frank Hodges.
