NOXUBEE — Sam Roger Gilkey, 61, died Jan. 14, 2022, in Macon.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, at New Zion Baptist Church in Macon, with Stephen Sykes officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation is from 2-6 p.m. Thursday, at Carter’s Funeral Services. Carter’s Funeral Services of Macon is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Gilkey was born Nov. 13, 1960, in Noxubee County, to Roemella Gilkey and the late O. C. Gilkey. He was a graduate of Noxubee County High School and Valley State University. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and was formerly employed as an educator with Noxubee County High School. He was a member of New Zion Baptist Church.
In addition to his father, he was preceded in death by his siblings, O. C. Gilkey Jr., Robert Lee Gilkey, Kendell Gilkey, and Timothy Gilkey.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his siblings, Terry Gilkey, Ollie Gilkey, Teresa Gilkey Conner, Amesha Gilkey Smith, and Delois Gilkey of Macon, Teyuan Gilkey Moore of Ridgeland, and Shannon Gilkey of Atlanta, Georgia.
Pallbearers will be Antonia Gilkey, Cleveland Moore, Wallace Randle, Kelvin Smith, Melvin Conner, and Carnell Patterson.
