Roy Clarence Pickle, age 90, of Columbus, MS died May 5, 2009 at The Windsor Place. Funeral services will be Friday, May 8, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Gunter & Peel Chapel with Rev. Pat Creel and Rev. Carolyn Hulen officiating. The interment will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, May 7, 2009 from 6:00-8:30 PM at Gunter & Peel Funeral Home. Mr. Pickle was born September 15, 1918 in Smithville, MS to the late Earnest and Zana Pugh Pickle. He was a veteran of WWII serving in the United States Army and retired from United Technologies after 27 years. Mr. Pickle was a member of the former Northside Freewill Baptist Church where he served as trustee. In addition to his parents, Mr. Pickle was preceded in death by sisters, Dorothy Pickle of Smithville, MS, Leona Graham of AR, Pauline Phelan of Weatherford, TX, Syble Martin of AZ, and Willie Mae Smth of Columbus, MS, and one brother, Frank Pickle of Steens, MS. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Nellivee Ray Pickle of Columbus, daughter, Linda (Jerry) Darrell of Columbus, brothers, John H. Pickle of Hamilton, MS, Arnold Pickle of Ft. Worth, TX, James Pickle of Weatherford, TX, and Bill Pickle of Palo Pinto, TX, and sisters, Zana Pierce of Amory, MS, and Elois Watson of Mansfield, TX, grandsons, Chad (Jennifer) Darrell of Columbus, Shane (Kristina) Darrell of Columbus, Kevin (Mary Jane) Darrell of Murfreesboro, TN, and Sean Darrell of Murfreesboro, TN, and great grandchildren, Lindsey, Jeffrey, Whitney, Chase, Diana, Kevin, Noah, Lacey, and Grant Darrell. Pallbearers will be grandsons and Charles Christian, Jerry Strickland, Nick Hulen, and Robert Rippetoe. Honorary pallbearers will be J. Roy Johnson, Bobby Ray, Buddy McCullough, Dr. John Stanback, staff of The Windsor Place, and Joan Sheppard, director of Philwood Suits at The Windsor Place.
