AMORY — Roy Green Ausbon, 85, died March 25, 2009, at Oak Tree Plantation in Amory. Services were today at 11 a.m. Amory Church of Christ with Mr. Philip Hathcock and Mr. Keith Sanders officiating. Burial followed at Haughton Memorial Park in Amory. E.E. Pickle Funeral Home of Amory was in charge of arrangements. Mr. Ausbon was a lifelong resident of the Amory area and he attended Smithville schools. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, having served during World War II in the Pacific aboard the USS Oak Hill. He owned and operated Ausbon Ice Company from 1940-1969. He owned and operated Ausbon Electrical and Hardware Supply from 1969-1988. He served on the City of Amory Board of Alderman for several terms as street commissioner. He was a member of the Amory Church of Christ, Lion’s Club and Veteran’s of Foreign Wars. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Elbert Ausbon; sisters, Irene Williams, Vera Phillips, Ruth Bryan and Earnestine Hamilton; and one granddaughter. He is survived by his wife, Ona Faye Herndon Ausbon of Amory; son, Sidney Howell of Amory; daughters, Jan Minch and Martha Wilkes, both of Amory; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Pallbearers were Pat and Mike Bryan, Fred Heckart, Walt Hester, and Jimmy and Phil Sullivan. Memorials may be made to Amory Church of Christ Building Fund, P.O. Box 371, Amory MS 38821.
