ABERDEEN â€” Raymond Stanley â€œTawâ€ Stanford, 85, died Feb. 16, 2009, at his residence. Services are Thursday at 1 p.m. at E.E. Pickle Funeral Home Chapel in Amory with Bro. Tom Sheffield officiating. Burial will follow at Howell Cemetery. Visitation is today from 5-8 p.m. and will continue until service time on Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Stanford was born Oct. 3, 1923, in the Bethlehem Community of Monroe County to the late Lee and Itie Mae Sullivan Stanford. He attended Bethlehem, Oak Hill and Smithville schools, and he lived in the Athens Community for over 50 years. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and he was a long-time owner of Mississippi Gravel Co., Inc. and Stanford Construction. He served on the Cadence Bank board in Amory and on the Board of Directors for Wesley College in Florence. He was a member of the St. Andrews United Methodist Church. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Paul Stanford; sisters, Minnie Lee Carter and Annie Chambers; and brothers, Bill and Calvin Stanford. He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Yvonne Camp Stanford of Aberdeen; daughters, Diane Morgan of Hattiesburg and Cindy Christian of Baton Rouge, La.; sisters, Evelyn Noe, Lavern Pope and Sue Gray; brother, Donald Stanford; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, Pallbearers will be Ed Stanford, Scotty Berryman, Jeff Kellum, Keith Spotts, Henry Wright, Johnnie Jones and Roy Rock.
